Compassion

1The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, to display his glory (Is.61:1-3).

Home Visitation - As an extension to the liberti Easter Outreach, a Home Visitation Ministry has been created to follow-up with families who received an Easter meal and wanted further contact with the church. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 11am, all three churches meet for a time of training and prayer before visiting families. Our goal is to partner with these families, assess community needs and individual needs in order to bring restoration and healing in the name of the Jesus. As relationships begin to form, we want to invite people to a closer relationship to God and His community.

A time of training and prayer will be lead by each congregation, meeting at liberti church east at 2424 E York St.  You will be sent with a partner and given a few families to visit, who have requested someone from the church to visit them.

If you are interested or have any questions please contact Chad Somers.

Bethesda Project- the Bethesda project is a community of prayer, reflection, and action that responds to the call to serve the abandoned poor.  “Where the homeless have found sanctuary, compassion and themselves since 1979” We are currently involved in 3 sites. Website: www.bethesdaproject.org

My Brother’s House - Safe Haven for 20 formerly homeless men with substance abuse problems. We hold a bible study with the men every Monday at 10am. If you would like to join us email Vito Baldini at: vito@libertichurchcentercity.org. Location: 609 South 15th Street.

Sanctuary - Transitional supportive housing community for 16 formerly homeless men in recovery. Bethesda Project "Sanctuary" is held every 3rd Sunday from 11:30-1:30 pm. This is a time of serving and visiting with the Sanctuary guys. It's a laid-back, fun time that blesses us just as much as the men. To get involved email Krista Sepielli at: kristasepielli@gmail.com. Location: 816 South 20th Street.

Bethesda Spruce Street - Permanent single room occupancy (SRO) housing for 16 formerly homeless women. They would love for us to bring a meal in on Wednesdays and eat and spend time with the women. They also need people to come in on weekends to run bingo games and help with cleaning. To get involved, contact Vito Baldini at: vito@libertichurchcentercity.org. Location: 1110 Spruce Street.

Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility- CFCF is the largest facility in the Philadelphia Prison System, with the capacity to serve 40,000 meals daily to inmates, corrections officers, and staff. The prison also serves as a 24-hour intake center for adult males with lineups, public defender meetings, and bail hearings all taking place onsite. On the third Sunday night of every month, liberti leads teams of 5-10 men and women to spend about two hours in a service for the men. The time is uniquely structured to involve singing and praise (mainly led by the inmates themselves), sharing personal stories of faith (testimonies), and an interactive sermon. The prison is located in Northeast Philadelphia about 15 minutes from center city (you don't need a car, we'll ride together). You don't have to go to the prison to be a part of serving in this ministry; there are opportunities to pray, plan, write, and give too. To get involved, contact Joseph Yasso at joseph.yasso@gmail.com.

Emmanuel Community Ministries- liberti helps First Baptist Church reach out to our homeless brothers and sisters in center city every 2nd & 4th Saturday from 10am-4pm (we work in two shifts: 10am-1pm and 1pm-4:30pm). They offer a time of devotion, giving thanks, and a safe environment for expressing special needs and requests. They provide a cooked meal, clothing, shoes, movie time and much-needed relaxation time away from some of the needs and hardships that they face daily. We attempt to give our friends and guests the reassurance that comes with belonging to a larger community. If you would like volunteer contact  Austin Gee at: austin.m.gee@gmail.com. Location: First Baptist Church at 17th & Sansom.

Kids Arts & Crafts - this is a follow-up ministry to our Life Nights (vacation bible school) that was held over the summer. With an overwhelming attendance from children in the Philadelphia community (over 50 in a four-day span), we asked our local recreation center if there were other ways in which we could serve the surrounding community's families. The director at Marion Anderson Recreation Center expressed a real need for arts programs at the center, and since then we've developed a partnership with the center to provide a weekly night of arts & crafts for children in the community. We meet at the Marion Anderson Recreation Center every Wednesday night from 6:00-7:30pm to serve children through the arts. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Carolyn Larivee at carolynlarrivee@gmail.com. Location: 740 S. 17th Street.
